Getting to San Diego

The San Diego Airport is located just ten minutes from downtown San Diego and serviced by 22 major and commuter airlines including non-stop flights from Mexico, Canada, Japan and the UK; Southwest Airlines has its own terminal at San Diego Airport and often has lower fares than other airlines.

Directions from Airport to Venue

The Shrine Center is 11.8 miles from San Diego International Airport (3225 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA).  Directions from Airport to Shrine Center (5440 Kearny Mesa Road):

The Shrine Center is 0.7 miles from the San Diego HRS Adoption Center (4807 Mercury Street Suite A, San Diego, tel # (858) 565-2869) This is a short walk or cab ride, or people can use Uber or Lyft.

Following are the ways to get from the airport to the venue and hotels:

By Public Transportation: This link gives multiple bus choices for getting from the airport to the venue.  If you use Uber or Lyft, both also serve San Diego.

By Taxi: Taxis can be found outside terminals 1 and 2 at the airport.

By Shuttle: Airport shuttles run regularly from the airport terminals to various points around the city and can be booked in advanced. Shuttles provide an easy to use, economical alternative to a taxi.

By Rental Car: Most major car rental companies are easily accessible from the airport. Use the car rental reservation boards located near the baggage claim areas of terminals 1 and 2 to catch a shuttle to the car rental locations.

If you’d like to share a ride with others coming to the venue, please email conference@rabbit.org with your flight information and we will add your name to the share list.

Transportation

San Diego is a car city, so if you choose to rent a car, you will be able to get around the easiest. However, even without a car, once you get to the hotel (assuming you choose one of the hotels below), the venue is within walking distance, as are dozens of restaurants!

If you do want to explore the city using public transportation, you will want to either use the bus (Metropolitan Transit System) which does go to many of San Diego’s top attractions, or a taxi or Uber/Lyft. For trips in and around downtown, you can hop on the trolley.  One-way fares cost between $2.25 and $5. Day passes, which are good for unlimited rides on most MTS bus and trolley routes, cost $5.  Ferries run regularly between downtown’s Broadway Pier and the Convention Center and Coronado. The ride takes about 15 minutes, and one-way tickets cost $4.25 per person.
