Happy Birthday, Bruno!

Friday 17 August 2007 at 11:14 am

Bruno

He looks surprised, doesn’t he? It isn’t often we know the exact birthday of a bunny, but we do happen to know that Bruno was born August 17, 2006. That’s when he and his six siblings were found in the back of a pickup truck. The owner of the truck thought they were newborn pit bulls (!) and took them to the local shelter, where Marisa recognized them as bunnies and rescued them. Maya, a nursing mother rabbit from San Jose Shelter, generously agreed to raise the orphans as her own.

Despite his early resemblance to a pit bull, Bruno is quiet and well-mannered. He likes cilantro, dried papaya, banana slices, and hay. He has excellent litterbox habits. And he has yet to attack anyone. He is hoping his stay at the Rabbit Center will help him find the perfect home, where he hopes to be spoiled and fussed over.

For his birthday, Bruno has asked for a Michael Vick chew toy.

Hey our rabbit who is harlequin, and almost three years old has consistently had snuffles for the past few years. We put her on antibiotics three times, and although they helped for a few weeks, her conditions worsened again. Does anyone know of treatment other than long term antibiotics for rabbits with snuffles? Would you reccomend Cortosine shots? Thank you sooooooooo much!!!:)

To anyone-

Does anyone know or have a rabbit with snuffles? Our rabbit, who is three years old and a harelquin has had snuffles on and off for the past few months. We had her on antibiotics three times, but we think that is not the best for her kidneys. Does anyone have any other reccomendation for treatment? Are Corosol shots effective? Thank you so much!!! Danke schon!

awww, even pit bulls don’t attack if they’re well socialized and all. I believe pit bulls can be cuddly as bunnies given the right situation and kind treatment. Though often high energy, they too can be quiet and well mannered. And they may have less of a tendency than rabbits to chew through phone cords while sitting in your lap!

I have a rabbit with snuffles. He was diagnosed at abput 3 yrs of age and my vet had him on a low dose of baytril that seemed to help, however he had diarrhea with this treatment, but the snuffles went away, or at least the symptoms did. However, after about 3 years, the symptoms case back with a vengeance and i called my vet to talk about alternatives, including putting his to sleep so he wouldn’t suffer. My vet then said that azithromycin has been approved for rabbits and to try him on a dose of that, so she prescribed him 200mg/5ml in a suspended solution to give him 4cc per day for 7 days. This was about 2 months ago…his symptoms have dissappeared and he has been symptom free since, in fact, he is back to his old self, his digestive flora has re-established itself and he is a normal rabbit. Ask your vet about azithrimycin or “zithromax” for you rabbit…you might have the same results as myself.
