Sponsor a Rabbit

Sponsorship of a foster or sanctuary rabbit is one of the most important and direct ways to help House Rabbit Society. Rabbit sponsorships provide funding for spay/neuter, medical care (if needed), food, litter, toys and housing.

We recommend that you sponsor a rabbit within your own chapter; check out the list of chapters on our home page to see if there are any in your state.

The following categories of sponsorship give you an idea of the costs involved in caring for a foster rabbit over an average period of time that rabbits are kept in HRS foster homes:

  • Spay/Neuter – $50
  • Food – $15
  • Litter – $10

You can be a sponsor of a particular rabbit at any of the above levels, or you can be his/her sole sponsor by making a full sponsorship gift of $75. Some chapters offer full sponsors the opportunity to name “their” foster rabbit too! The above costs are examples only. The amount it takes to sponsor a rabbit will vary according to the area of the country where you live; please contact your local chapter to find out more about their own programs. Many chapters also offer monthly or annual sponsorships of sanctuary rabbits, i.e. rabbits who are permanent residents of HRS foster homes.

Though the benefits include sponsoring a particular rabbit and receiving information about him/her, we will use the funds to benefit our work on behalf of all rescued rabbits and our education efforts.

Veterinary Memorial Gifts

Veterinarians may choose to donate to House Rabbit Society in the name of a recently deceased rabbit patient. We will send a letter of acknowledgement to your client letting them know that we received a donation in the memory of their rabbit, from the veterinarians and staff at your practice. Because of these donations, House Rabbit Society will be able to continue its work to help all rabbits, and your clients will know that their rabbits will live on in this work.

Shopping to Benefit HRS

There are a number of ways for you to benefit HRS while shopping.

Matching Gifts

Many corporations demonstrate their support for charitable organizations by matching, or multiplying, their employees’ gifts to nonprofit organizations like HRS. Before you make a gift, please ask whether your employer participates in such a program.

Donate Your Car, Truck, RV or Boat

House Rabbit Society has teamed up with Car Donations Services, Inc. to provide you with the easiest way possible to donate your vehicle. Car Donations Services has been helping local charities for over fifteen years and will take care of every aspect of your car donation, allowing you peace of mind that the transaction will be completed efficiently and properly. Gifts of Real Estate

When you give a gift of your home or real property to HRS, you may claim an income-tax charitable deduction to the extent allowable by law.

Gifts in Kind

You may wish to give HRS a gift of rabbit food, hay, toys, cages, or litter. All of these items are used by our fosterers across the country. In addition, HRS chapters can use gifts of office equipment (photocopiers, computer equipment, fax machines, etc.) and office supplies like paper, postage stamps, and envelopes. If you are interested in donating, please contact your local chapter who can make arrangements to receive your gift.

The Bunny Brigade

The Bunny Brigade is our monthly donor club. Bunny Brigade members make automatic online donations to HRS. It’s a simple way of contributing to help offset our monthly expenses, and it’s unbelievably beneficial to us. Think about joining today!

House Rabbit Society Eternal Carrot Society

The House Rabbit Society Eternal Carrot Society is a special group of House Rabbit Society friends who have remembered HRS in their estate plan. These generous friends have made their gifts through bequests, retirement plans, or life insurance policies. Your estate plan gift will help build a strong heritage for HRS and ensure that we can continue our important rescue and educational work for generations to come.

House Rabbit Society Eternal Carrot gifts to House Rabbit Society can be made in two ways: bequests through wills and trusts, and through retirement plans and life insurance policies.

Wills and Trusts

Bequests of all sizes are welcome. You may make a bequest of cash, securities, or real estate by designating a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset. A bequest is simple to arrange in consultation with your legal advisor. It is a revocable arrangement, enabling you to make alterations as your circumstances change. Moreover, a bequest to HRS will qualify your estate for an estate tax deduction as allowable by law.

Sample Will Provision

“I give (____ dollars), (_____ percent of the residue of my estate) or (a specific asset) to House Rabbit Society.”

Life Insurance Policies

You may name House Rabbit Society as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement plan or your life insurance policy. Such a gift is easy to arrange with help from your tax advisors.

Many people cannot donate as much as they might like to HRS at this time, but through remembering HRS in your estate plans, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you can contribute to the future of this organization.
