The Rabbits’ Wedding
by Garth Williams
Garth Williams is best known for having illustrated the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. While the rabbit characters are somewhat anthropomorphized, this is still a beautiful book about a bonded pair of rabbits. (They are portrayed as being wild rabbits and yet one of them is black while the other is white.) This book was widely banned in the U.S. when it was first published in 1958, because segregationists felt it promoted interracial marriage. Read the New York Times article about the controversy here

A Bunny for All Seasons
by Janet Schulman and Meilo So
Beautifully illustrated by award-winning artist Meilo So, this book tells the story of a year in the life of a wild rabbit. It is partly educational in that everything the rabbit does is realistic. Little to no anthropomphizing here. Our heroine lives near and regularly avails herself of someone’s garden, so a gardener will either get a good laugh out of this book or break out in hives.
