*Special-Needs Bunnies*

Even if you can't adopt or foster a rabbit, you can help us rescue a rabbit in another way. Some of our rabbits here at the Burrow Inn are considered 'Special-Needs bunnies' and will require medical attention for the rest of their lives. These bunnies have proven time and time again that they want to be alive. Many times, these bunnies were placed on the euthanaisa list at the local shelter and rescued at the 11th hour because of that "special spark" in their personality that said..."I want to live". Although many are not available for adoption at this time, most of them do need medical sponsors to help the Burrow Inn pay for their care. They rely on people like you to help support them.

Again, if you love rabbits, but are not able to adopt or foster, sponsoring a rabbit is another compassionate and helpful way to save lives.

Olive Goes to the Rainbow Bridge

July 12, 2008

I have some very sad news to share. Olive, one of our special needs rabbits died suddenly this evening. She lived with Nena, Belle and Hamish. To give you an update she was found by a park ranger at the Peninsula Water Shed Jan. of 07 and brought to PHS. She had some problems with her hind end and would drag slightly at end of her gait. She had problems with urinating on herself. She tested postive for E Cuniculi. We rescued her and brought her into our foster home. We paired her up with three other bunnnies and she was happy as can be. She was pretty stable the whole time she was with us. She never was sickly so there was no reason to worry about her. Something must have been going on as this evening I was in her room talking to a friend who was visiting the rabbits. Olive looked fine. I left the room for about 20 min. and when i came back she was laying on her side dead. It just happened so quickly. I was in shock. I know her bunny friends are going to miss her as much as I am. She had this sweetness about her and angelic face. It's so strange as the last few weeks I had a strange feeling that someone was going to be leaving. I kept hearing certain significant songs on the radio and i just knew it was a sign that someone was getting ready to leave. I hope Olive will send us a sign soon that she made it to the bridge. We're going to miss her.

Olive's Story: I am a survivor!

Posted: January 21, 2006

A little bunny by the name of Olive found her way to Peninsula Humane Society and into the hearts of some of the volunteers that worked with her. She is a feisty little bunny with a strong will to live. She was discovered by a park ranger in the Peninsula watershed in San Mateo all by herself with what appeared to be an injury to one of her hind legs. As a result of her injury, Olive had sever urine scald. For such a little thing to survive out there on her own is truly a miracle. She is a little over two pounds and despite her ailments, is very spirited and high strung. Her spirit and gung-ho personality convinced the good people at the Burrow Inn to make room for her and now she is safe and loved without any worries of being abandoned again. She loves her greens and doesn't mind humans! At the shelter, she was kept clean and fed, however, no medical work was done on her. She has an appointment with Dr. Harvey and the estimated cost for her check-up and rehabilition may add up to almost $200.00 or more.

If you would like to donate to help Olive, Olive AND the people at the Burrow Inn will be incredibly greatful to you.

Please also remember to check in periodically to hear more about Olive's progress.
