The House Rabbit Society Board of Directors is excited to announce that we have a new Board President!

After 14 years as President of the House Rabbit Society Board, Margo DeMello stepped down at the end of 2017, replaced by long-time Vice President Mary Cotter, who agreed to serve as interim president for the first nine months of this year. At our September 2018 Board meeting, the Board unanimously voted in Dawn Sailer as our new President.

Ms. Sailer has been on the HRS board since 2016, and over the past two years has chaired the HRS Emergency Rescue Committee, which has brought relief to countless rabbit emergencies around the country. She has also played an active role in the licensing of national educators and chapter managers. Ms. Sailer founded Indiana House Rabbit Society in 2001, acting as Chapter Manager until 2015. With a BS in biochemistry and an MS degree in chemistry, Dawn works as an analytical chemist at a multinational pharmaceutical company. She has also volunteered with Border Collie Rescue and St. Michael the Archangel Parish Council.

Margo DeMello said, regarding the new appointment, “As we celebrate the organization’s 30th birthday, I have no doubt that Dawn is the right person to help usher House Rabbit Society into our next decade. She has the leadership, ambition, drive, and compassion to help this organization to continue to grow and to help rabbits across the planet.”

“We welcome Dawn Sailer as House Rabbit Society’s new Board President and we look forward to continuing to work together to make the world a better place for rabbits,” said Executive Director Anne Martin.  Dawn added, “I look forward to serving as HRS Board President.  HRS’ upcoming strategic planning promises to identify new programs to help more rabbits in need.”
