We’re having a bunny care class *just* for kids! You’ll learn all about how to take care of your bunny — feeding and grooming, picking him up safely, cleaning cages, keeping him healthy and happy, games to play with him, and problems to watch out for. Shelter Manager Christiana Remick will show you the ropes. Open to ages 8 and up. $10.
Whether you just adopted a bunny or have had yours for a while and are looking to polish your rabbit care skills, this is the class for you! Taught by HRS supervisor Carolyn Mosher, this class covers everything you need to know, including diet and exercise, grooming techniques, monitoring your bunny’s health, and basic medical care.
Sunday, September 23rd from 1 – 4 pm. Class fee is $15 for the first person and $5 for each additional family member.
This course is a prerequisite for the Hands-on Bunny Care Class.

Parents, older siblings, teachers, librarians, community and student leaders are encouraged to read to younger children every day for twenty minutes to impart simple, everyday ways to treat animals with kindness while fostering literacy skills and cooperation through creative playtime.
Participants in this class will learn the basics of a varied 20 to 30-minute presentation and receive a NBLB volunteer educator certificate, a training manual, a recommended reading list, a signed NBLB poster, and a copy of Rosemary Wells book, Read to Your Bunny. As a certified NBLB educator, participants will be encouraged to visit elementary school classrooms, after-school programs, churches, animal shelters and other venues to read to children and lead discussions — helping children develop critical thinking skillsand empathy. No Bunny Left Behind posters are available should volunteers want to hang them at local shelters, schools and churches.

Judy Hardin, founder of RabbitEARS Adoption Store in El Cerrito, an HRS member and humane educator (not yet but I will sign up immediately!!!), and guardian to six house bunnies.
Elianna Senturia, a long-time volunteer at RabbitEARS, an eighth-grader at Albany Middle School, a lover of all creatures and a certified No Bunny Left Behind volunteer educator.

In this companion class to the Well-Maintained Bunny, enrollment is limited so that participants can work with (and on) their bunny as they practice basic procedures. Participants will become comfortable grooming their bunnies, taking temperatures, trimming nails, and cleaning anal glands and ears. They will also practice administering oral medications, syringe-feeding, and administering subcutaneous fluids. Bring your bunny in a carrier and a flexible tip 10-second thermometer if you have one. Other materials included in the class fee of $30 per person.
