Organization: House Rabbit Society is a rabbit rescue and education organization. This position will be working at House Rabbit Society headquarters, located in Richmond, CA, alongside a staff of four.

Supervisor: Executive Director

Position: The Animal Caregiver provides care for the 35-50 rabbits living and boarding at House Rabbit Society. Animal Caregivers are responsible for cleaning, feeding, and assisting with the medical care of the rabbits.

Responsibilities:

  • Feeding and watering the rabbits according to a daily schedule
  • Cleaning and disinfecting litter boxes and rabbit habitats
  • Following veterinary instructions, including administering medications and maintaining treatment records
  • Observing and reporting on the health and behavior of individual rabbits
  • Daily cleaning duties, providing a healthy, safe, sanitary, and pleasant facility for rabbits and visitors
  • Training and supervising volunteers as needed to assist with animal care tasks
  • Checking boarding rabbits in/out and ringing clients up at the register
  • Greeting and interacting with visitors in a friendly and helpful manner
  • Treating people and rabbits with respect and contributing to effective teamwork

Requirements:

  • Passionate about working for and with rabbits, passionate about saving the lives of shelter animals, and committed to House Rabbit Society‚Äôs mission (rabbit.org/about-us)
  • Previous experience with animals in a professional environment (either paid or volunteer)
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Good animal behavior and observation skills
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, basic veterinary assistant skills (i.e. oral medication administration, subcutaneous injections, wound care, taking rectal temperature, administering subcutaneous fluids, etc.)
  • Able to handle animals safely and humanely
  • Able to communicate well
  • Able to understand and execute detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
  • Able to learn and process new information quickly
  • Able to work as a team and also independently
  • Able to be courteous with the general public and provide good customer service
  • Able to be work well with people in a diverse workplace environment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift 50 pound bags of rabbit pellets/litter and move them inside the building or to a vehicle
  • Able to walk or stand for long periods
  • Able to position self to clean rabbit enclosures on the floor
  • Able to work at a steady pace and complete tasks on schedule
  • Able to be exposed to allergens, including rabbits and grasses/hay

This is a part-time, non-exempt position.

Hours/Days: 8 hour shifts (9am-5:30pm) on 3 regular sequential days, either Wednesday-Friday OR Thursday-Saturday. Availability for occasional extra shifts desired. Must be willing to work holidays that fall on regular shift days.

Salary: $13.50-$14.50/hour, based on experience
